The transformation

VIPS remodelled and extended this 1960s house in north-west Anglesey, with new space to the south and west and every existing room renovated. Our scope, on a design-and-build basis, ran from groundworks through to completion.

The extension is insulated blockwork cavity construction built to current thermal standards, with low-profile underfloor heating laid across the whole ground floor and solar slates set into the south roof. The ground falls away to the west, and the plan uses it: a new lower ground floor holds the master suite, with a glass-balustraded terrace on its roof opening off the living room above. Externally, white pebble-dash render sits over a dark brick base, matched to the original house.

A full remodel on a remote site carries its own demands: a lower floor dug into falling ground, existing services rerouted, and a single-track lane for every delivery.
